Ugh. When I wrote about exciting “megaconcert” possibilities for our beautiful city of Halifax, THIS was not what I had in mind. On Canada Day, Citadel Hill will feature a lineup of blah-rock icons led by my favourite band of all time, Nickelback. Joining them will be American Idol star turned rock star Daughtry, along with Staind and Finger Eleven.
Thumper’s mom always told me that if I didn’t have anything nice to say, I shouldn’t say anything at all. And while I’ve rarely followed this practice in the past, let’s give it a shot. I’m glad that the tradition of Canada Day concerts on Citadel Hill, which has been ignored for the past few years, has returned. Daughtry is a genuine superstar south of the border (his album has been in the Top 5 for months now and “It’s Not Over” is one of the biggest singles of the year), so having him visit our city is kinda cool. And here’s the best part: the ticket price for the show is a ridiculously affordable $54.50 plus service charges; for comparison, that’s only slightly more than the overpriced Tragically Hip show this September is. If I liked any of the bands on this bill, this concert would be a no brainer.
Too bad I have taste. (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.)
If you are interested, you can find all the details at TicketAtlantic.
Edit: Hedley has just been added to the bill. Whoop de do!

You really have to understand. Some of us Acadia Grads do appreciate real Canadian Rock. Maybe you think it’s cookie-cutter , but as William always said about you, “taste⦠anyone who can eat food at Mariott can’t espouse to having taste!” Chill out! Veto? And who is going to worry about you missing the show? I think about you as I enjoy the pre-carbonated, pro-biotic waves of sound washing over me. Ciao!
