This blog has been created under one of two presumptions:
1. That my life is semi- to moderately-interesting and that a running commentary on it would be worthwhile reading
or
2. That my life is so uninteresting that to blog about it might actually be ironically amusing
I’ve always resisted the impulse to write a blog, even though I’ve been reading them for quite a long time now. Even now, I have trouble with the self-indulgence part of it, that my innermost thoughts might actually be worth public consumption. I’ve tried to keep a journal at several points in my life, but only when I was in elementary school was I able to actually stick with it for any long period of time (and when the most revelatory thoughts inside are that girls have cooties and that it’s fun to throw rocks at things, it doesn’t make for hte most enlightening reading). I always thought the whole point of a journal was to have a place to jot down your thoughts for your own devices; why the hell would I want to share those thoughts with the great unwashed masses?
So what won me over? Peer pressure.
Everyone and their mother has a blog now. My favourite bands have blogs. My co-workers have blogs. My fellow music geeks have blogs. The rabble rousers have blogs. So I guess what I’m trying to say is that they’re officially JUST uncool enough for me to finally have one.
So, as a great many failures before me have said before beginning their own tragic journeys…here goes nothing…
FIVE INDISPUTABLE FACTS ABOUT RYAN MCNUTT
1. McNutt is disappointed that the popularization of “blogosphere” didn’t lead to a dramatic rise in the suffix “osphere” (for example, “potatosphere” or “dinosphere).
2. McNutt will interject himself into any and all music-related conversations, regardless of whether or not him opinion was asked for.
3. McNutt believes that public relations is the perfect profession for him; he’s gotten through almost 24 years of his life on bullshit alone, so it’s about time he got paid for it
4. McNutt prefers John to Paul, but thinks Paul’s contributions to The Most Important Band of All Time are highly underrated (see side two of Abbey Road for proof of this statement)
5. McNutt does have his own MySpace page; however, he only uses it for the purposes of posting his aggressively amateur and almost unlistenable musical recordings, and disallows any friends to help keep his creative angst intact

Dearest Ryan,
Comment by Leslie July 15, 2006 @ 3:11 amWelcome to the blog. I enjoy it as a keeping in touch, but not having to talk to people every week tool. I am disimpressed with myself for having lost touch with you and hope that your life is going well. Hopefully now I will learn a bit more about what you’re up to these days, and potentially hear some more of your music (I still listen to your CD from time to time ;) )

…. even those with the strongest of wills, will succumb to the blogoshpere “grasshopper”. Fear not, what doesn’t kill you, will indeed make you stronger.
Welcome to the dark side.–>
